ALLSPICE
-Pimenta dioica-
Also known as Pimento or Jamaican Pepper
It is an evergreen tree and a part of the myrtle family. The tree is native to the Greater Antilles, southern Mexico, and Central America, but it is now grown worldwide in warmer climates. Often used in cooking and has a similar taste to clove, cinnamon, and nutmeg
CARE
This tree can thrive in normal garden soil, but does require a tropical climate zone, so in colder areas it is best grown indoors as a shrubbier plant. Regular watering, with well draining soil, will help the smooth leaves flower more. The trees can grow to about 50 feet tall but usually to about 9 feet tall, and can grow small flowers and berries. Once the berries are an unripe green color they are plucked and dried in the sun or low heat. Once dry enough, the fruit will be a brownish color, and will easily grind up into a powder when needed.
